ANTIQUE STAIN
A coloured, wax based gel used to give an antiqued effect to leather.

Antique Stain leaves a subtle two-tone antiqued effect to leather. It works great on larger projects, as it is very easy to work with and control the amount being applied with ease. It can also be used for highlighting details in your decorative cuts.
This product works by soaking into the leather, leaving a subtle antique effect to your designs. With this product being a gel, it can easily be dabbed or dotted into specific areas on your design, so you do not have to antique the whole piece if you prefer not to.
Antique Stain is Suitable For
Aniline type leather, vegetable tanned leather.
Antique Stain Coverage and Shelf Life
Store in a cool dry place, away from direct sunlight.
Store between 8°C and 30°C.
Once open, use within 1 year.
Highlighting tooled leather
Apply liberally to a sponge or dauber and rub onto the leather, ensuring good coverage in the tooled areas. Remove excess immediately, clearing the raised areas of the leather and leaving a build-up in the tooled sections.
If your piece has gone too dark for your liking, this can be rectified by lightly cleaning over the surface of the leather with a sponge damped with water or with Natural Finish. More stain can be applied if required.
General antiquing
If you just want to add an antiqued look to leather, simply rub this product into the leather with a sponge, and then wipe the leather over afterwards with a clean cloth to remove any excess.
What is the difference between Antique Stain and Antique Paste?
Both products can be used for highlighting tooled leather; they give a colour contrast between the tooled sections and the rest of your piece.
What you should consider is, how do you want your piece to look.
Our Antique Stain will leave a more subtle stain to your project, highlighting the tooled areas, whereas the Antique Paste will give much more of a contrast in colour, emphasising the tooled areas with darkness.
As with most things in the crafting community, it is down to personal preference as to which you prefer, and what the overall look is that you are trying to achieve.

Does Antique Stain dye leather?
Yes, it does dye the leather, but only subtly to give it an antique or aged look. If you want a strong dye to provide a deep colour, then you should use one of our Leather Dyes.
Is the Antique Stain only used as a highlighter for tooled leather?
No, it can also be used to lightly dye leathers to give them an antique look. The leather doesn’t need to be tooled either, it can be used to provide an antique effect to all absorbent leathers.
